Title:

Dental Trauma in the Pediatric Population

Description:

This continuing education course is designed for dental professionals seeking to enhance their knowledge and clinical skills in the management of pediatric dental trauma. Approximately 25% of school age children experience some form of dental trauma. This can be a scary experience for both the child and parent – the dental professional is looked to to provide treatment as well as reassurance. Participants will explore current best practices for diagnosing and treating common traumatic dental injuries in children, including luxation injuries, crown fractures, and avulsions. The course will also address psychological considerations, long-term follow-up care, and effective communication with parents and caregivers. Through case-based learning and evidence-based guidelines, dentists will gain practical strategies to improve outcomes and confidently manage dental emergencies in young patients.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this lecture participants will be able to:

  • Recognize and classify different types of pediatric dental trauma

  • Develop evidence-based emergency management strategies

  • Understand long term potential effects and follow up timelines post trauma

  • Enhance communication with patients and caregivers
